Together we can make a difference!

David Johnson is a lifelong Kentuckian, a public school teacher, and someone who believes deeply that government should work for working people—not just the wealthy and well-connected.
He has dedicated his life to serving families, schools, and communities across Eastern Kentucky. As a special education teacher, David works every day with students with disabilities—seeing firsthand how decisions made in Frankfort impact real people in real classrooms.
And let’s be honest—too often, those decisions are made without us in mind.
David comes from this region. With roots in Estill County and a lifetime in Madison County, he knows the struggles families face because he’s lived them and worked alongside them. He understands what it means when schools are underfunded, when healthcare is too expensive, and when communities feel like they’ve been left behind.
That’s why he’s fighting for something better.
David believes in fully funded public schools, affordable healthcare for every family, and a government that is transparent and accountable to the people—not corporate interests or political insiders.
And he doesn’t just talk about change—he’s delivered it.
In 2020, David played a key role in helping pass Kentucky’s Insulin Copay Cap, lowering the cost of life-saving medication for thousands of Kentuckians. That’s what happens when everyday people stand up and demand action.
He’s also someone who respects the history and values of our communities—honoring those who have served, including law enforcement, and understanding that preserving our heritage matters.
David is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and continued his education at the University of the Cumberlands. He lives here. He works here. And he’s running to represent the people of Powell, Estill, and Madison Counties—not the political elite.
State House floor vote on Insulin Copay Bill
I’m running because I believe our community deserves strong schools, affordable healthcare, and honest, transparent government that works for everyday people — not the rich and powerful. As a public school teacher, I see every day how decisions made in Frankfort affect real families, and I want to make sure those decisions work for the people who live here.
As a teacher, I know strong schools depend on proper funding, support for educators, and services for students with disabilities. I will advocate for policies that support teachers, strengthen special education, and make sure schools have the resources they need to help every student succeed.
While others pose for pictures, we need to truly invest in Kentucky's future--our children!
Access to healthcare is critical in rural communities. I support strengthening rural clinics, protecting local hospitals, and ensuring healthcare providers have the resources they need to serve patients close to home.
I do not support cuts to Kentucky Medicaid, and I strongly oppose legislation that has placed 35 hospitals on a financial “watch list,” putting access to care at risk for families across our state. Rural Kentuckians deserve stability—not uncertainty—when it comes to their healthcare.
I’ve worked to lower healthcare costs, including supporting the insulin copay cap, and I will continue to advocate for policies that keep rural clinics open, expand access to care, and make healthcare more affordable for families.
A strong local economy starts with working families and small businesses. I support policies that create good jobs, keep money in our local communities, and help small businesses grow without unnecessary red tape. I believe in investing in education and workforce training, supporting local employers, and making sure the economy works for everyday people — not just the wealthy or well-connected.
Tariffs can raise prices for Kentucky families, farmers, and small businesses. When costs go up, local people feel it first. I believe trade policies should protect Kentucky jobs without making everyday life more expensive for the people who live and work here.
Before running for State Representative, I worked directly with state legislators and understand how laws are written, debated, and passed in Frankfort. I know how committees work, how bills move, and how to advocate effectively for our district — not just talk about it.
That experience matters. It means I can get to work on day one, focus on real solutions, and make sure our community has a voice at the table.
I’m not running to learn on the job.
I’m running to do the job.
